Born and raised in Jerusalem, Noa Baum is an award-winning storyteller and author who uses her art to build bridges of peace and understanding. Her stories, drawn from diverse cultures but primarily from her own Jewish heritage and personal experience, highlight our similarities, celebrate our differences, and encourage curiosity, awareness, and acceptance.
Noa trained in theater at Tel-Aviv University, studied acting with Uta Hagen and received an MA in Educational Theater from NYU. Since 1982, she’s performed and led workshops internationally. Highlights include: The World Bank, DC; The Kennedy Center; US Department of Defense; AARP; The National Storytelling Festival; US FDA; The Smithsonian Institute; The Mayo Clinic for Humanities in Medicine; Timpanogos Storytelling Conference; Jewish Museum of NYC; Limmud UK; Stanford University; University of Alabama; National Storytelling Network conferences; Jewish Theological Seminary, NYC; Fabula Storytelling Festival, Sweden; Brandeis University; Hebrew University, Jerusalem; John Hopkins University, as well as hundreds of schools and congregations.
Noa’s new memoir: A Land Twice Promised-An Israeli Woman’s Quest For Peace – a winner of the 2017 Anne Izard Storytellers’ Choice Award – recounts her journey from girlhood in post¬-Holocaust Israel to her adult encounter with “the other.” With honesty, compassion, and humor, she captures the drama of a nation at war and her discovery of humanity in the enemy.
Noa is a recipient of the Parents’ Choice and Storytelling World Awards as well as multiple Individual Artist Awards from The Maryland State Arts Council and The Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County.
