Paola Cespedez, part of Grupo de Danza Nuevas Raices, is from Bolivia and have been living in the Utah for fourteen years. She loves to dance and have been dancing for more than twenty years. Her first experience with dance was ballet. She performed with a ballet group for five years. She has a special place in her heart for the Bolivian culture. Dance is an fundamental part of it. She loved the costumes, the music, and what each dance symbolizes. For three years, she danced Bolivian folklore and then was given the opportunity to be an instructor. For the next two years, she taught young adults from the ages of eighteen to thirty. During this time, she learned the importance of working with people of this age group.
She and her husband yearned to come to America in hope of providing a better life for their children. After being in America for two years, she missed the culture dearly and began teaching dance to her family. When her children were old enough, she started another group with other Bolivian families who had children the same ages as hers. They have been dancing together for the past three years. All of these children were born in the United States, and this has given them a rich connection with their heritage.
